I’ve lived, worked and campaigned in the East End for many years and I’m proud of our political tradition. The foundations of the labour movement and council housing were laid here and we’ve opposed racism from Mosley’s blackshirts to the EDL.
But I’m worried about the future of Tower Hamlets. I see the gap between rich and poor getting wider while our public services are under constant attack. I have a four year old granddaughter. I’m standing for TUSC because I want to see a better East End future for her.
I’ve been involved in many campaigns including Save York Hall, Save Bethnal Green Library, Defend Council Housing and the Stop the War Coalition. I formed United East End, an alliance of local people that stopped the English Defence League (EDL) coming to Tower Hamlets.
I’ve worked in housing for over 20 years and believe only a national programme of council house building can provide the homes we need.
